Look Back At It. Getting Back On Track With Your Derailed Goals

We've finally made it into 2021, or what many are now calling 20-Won. 2020 was one of the most trying years for many of us- many lost their jobs or businesses, everyone I know has lost either a loved one, friend, or colleague to Covid-19, and that wasn't even the end of it all! After experiencing so much devastation in 2020, it's easy to feel exhausted and unsure of how to redirect ourselves back towards our goals. Try these simple methods to get back on track with your derailed goals!

  • Meditation At first, I viewed meditation as simply sitting in silence for a period of time. When I began meditating, I understood its significance to centering myself. I didn't realize the mind work meditation demands. To clear my mind, I listen to sounds that help calm my spirit and reduce anxiety such as the wind from a fan or an open window. Some people listen to an audio of the rain, or waves crashing. Meditation doesn't have to be something grand, it just needs to soothe you and allow you to calm your thoughts.

  • Journaling Journaling is a great way to refocus. Putting your thoughts on paper and reading them can help you analyze where you are and strategize your next move. Journaling helps me realize what areas I need to improve on, what steps I need to take, and what's hindering me from reaching my goals. 2020 taught me that it is important to write down your goals and feelings to help be at peace about the happenings in your day-to-day life.

  • A Thankful Jar. It may be a bit unorthodox, but a few years ago, I was listening to a podcast, and the host mentioned starting a "Thankful Jar". She has added a note of gratitude to the jar almost every day. This year is my first time doing it, and I love it. Using this method has helped me realize that even if I am having a not so good day, there is still something positive to come from it. This can help you stay on track with your goals by ensuring that you don't dwell on the negative!
